David Church PhD student in the Cities Programme at the London School of Economics and Political Science. David holds a BSc in Planning (first class honours from UCL), and MSc in City Design (distinction from LSE) and an MPLAN from the University of Manchester. He was awarded the Turley prize for his undergraduate dissertation, the Cities Prize from LSE for Academic Achievement and the 2009 Hobhouse Memorial Prize from LSE for best dissertation. His PhD research is on 'Urban containment, polycentricity and travel patterns: investigating the development and persistence of "planning doctrine" in a European context'.

Laura began her UKTRC-funded PhD at the University of East London in September 2010 after completing a Geography MSc in Modernity, Space and Place at University College London (Distinction). Her MSc dissertation, Cycling in London: All the Rage, considered representations of cycling, perceptions of deviance and the emotional and embodied reactions of different mobility space users to cycling in the city. She is interested in the way cycling is currently being promoted, perceived, represented and negotiated and cities, especially in relation to politics, cultural values & spatial inequalities. Her PhD research explores 'Is cycling the new cycling? The re-emergence, re-positioning and representation of cycling in London, Paris & New York'

PhD student in the Department of Economics at the University of Sheffield. Luke has an MSc in Economics and Health Economics (funded by the NIHR/MRC/ESRC) as well as a first class honours BSc in Economics and Mathematics (including the award of the Rensburg Sheppards Prize for Finance). Both previous degrees were completed at the University of Sheffield. His PhD research is exploring 'The Economics of Commuting Behaviour: Studies Using the British Household Panel Survey'
Louise Reardon Louise started her PhD in October 2010 at the University of Sheffield. She has a Philosophy, Politics and Economics BA from Durham University and a Governance and Public Policy MA from the University of Sheffield (Distinction). The working title of Louise's thesis is 'Quality of Life and Transport Policy under New Labour'.
